Collaborative Project to Support the Callen Lorde & Housing Works Shelter & Health Clinic with PPE
A team of Parsons faculty and students joined together to provide reusable hospital gowns, shoe covers, and hair covers for the staff at the Callen Lorde/Housing Works shelter and health clinic, which serves at risk and sick LGBTQIA homeless people in New York City.
I designed reusable hospital gowns, shoe covers, and zero-waste scrub caps. I initially coordinated sewers from around the country, many of them Parsons students who had left NYC because of the pandemic, and instructed them in garment production.
The project has since expanded. Recently, two factories in NYC produced 250 reusable hospital gowns, and 300 disposable gowns for high risk cases.
